I’ve been registering domain names for ages, and I’ve used many registrars from all over the world.
Unlike web hosting providers, I don’t have much to complain about regarding all the domain providers I’ve been with, but things like renewal pricing and control panel features can make a difference.
These are the providers that top my personal list these days:
1. Spaceship
Spaceship is cheapest domain registrar I’ve been using lately and it’s my most favorite one as of 2026. They have wholesale prices for both registration and renewal. A .com domain costs $9.08 ($8.88 + $0.20 ICANN fee) for registration and $10.18 ($9.98 + $0.20 ICANN fee) for renewal.
I like Spaceship’s modern dashboard. It has a developer-friendly theme with a modular design.
Free WHOIS privacy is included with TLDs that support it. They also have low-cost email and web hosting services, although there are better options for hosting (see below for my recommendations.)
2. NameCheap
I’m a long-time NameCheap user and I’ve been mostly happy with it. I register .uk and other domains with them. This website’s domain is registered with NameCheap.
They offer discounted first-year prices, but their renewal prices are higher (go to Domains > TLD List from their site’s navigation menu to see renewal prices).
NameCheap still has lower renewal rates than many UK domain registrars, like Fasthosts, 123 Reg, Heart Internet, etc. And they give you free WHOIS privacy.
Their dashboard could use an upgrade, but at least it’s technically stable and hasn’t given me any problems.
The only reason I use NameCheap less often these days is because of Spaceship’s lower renewal rates. It makes a big difference if you have multiple domains.
3. Dynadot
Dynadot is one of the most underrated domain registrars in my opinion. They get a lot of recognition on NamePros and other forums though.
It’s one of the registrars I trust with my domains and it’s been a flawless experience with them so far.
Prices are low, the dashboard is clean and easy to use, and support usually responds quickly.
Dynadot also has a marketplace for buying and selling premium domains. You can list your domains for sale or auction for free (they take a 10% commission fee on sold domains.)
4. Regery
Regery is a UK-registered domain provider that operates out of Ukraine. They have the lowest renewal rates of most UK-based registrars I’ve come across.
Their website/dashboard looks a bit old-school and untidy. It’s just a minor inconvenience.
I use Regery occasionally, but I prefer Spaceship for cheap domains since they have a better UI and faster support. Regery’s support is email only and sometimes they take a while to respond.
Price Comparison
The following are the current registration and renewal prices for .com domains at each of the above registrars, and I added a few others for comparison. These are the regular prices excluding promos and including ICANN’s $0.20 fee.
| Domain registrar | .com (registration) | .com (renewal) |

| Cloudflare | $10.46 | $10.46 |
| GoDaddy | $12.99 | $22.99 |
| 123 Reg | £7.99 (~$10.56) | £18.99 (~$25.11) |
| IONOS | $10.00 | $20.00 |
| Hostinger | $10.19 | $20.19 |
| Bluehost | $13.19 | $24.19 |
| Network Solutions | $12.19 | $23.19 |
| NameSilo | $17.29 | $17.29 |

Web Hosting Recommendations
Most of the popular domain registrars aren’t particularly the best options for web hosting. I usually keep my domains and hosting separate, but you do whatever works for you.
The cheapest host I use for new websites is Shock Hosting. Their cPanel shared hosting is $2.99 per month. The same price applies to renewal, unlike other hosts that charge you 5x the price at renewal. Haven’t had any issues with them and I highly recommend them as a starting point for new websites.
From the UK-based web hosts I’ve used, Hostworld is solid. I’ve had a good experience with these guys. Their plans are affordable and have all the features I care about.
